Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE ERNEST HAXBY 31065. The Forces Records say Ernest Haxby was born in Hull, but there is no record of him here at all. Our only match is an Ernest Haxby born in December 1892 over in Leeds. He was the only son of William and Mary Haxby of 51 Chatham Street, Leeds. He served in the East Yorkshire Regiment both with the Pals and as 70337 in the Machine Gun Corps. He was killed in action on 28th June 1918 during the attack on Le Cornet Perdu which claimed so many of his comrades, and was buried at Nieppe-Bois British Cemetery; he was 25 years old. What I do know is that his medals were destroyed by request on 22nd March 1922.
