BORN ROCHDALE LANCASHIRE, 1897. SON OF JOSEPH RICHARD HEARD (1872-1933) AND MARY ELIZABETH PARK (1870-1946), OF 10 CHANDROS STREET, BRADFORD AND 15, SALISBURY TERRACE, NORNABELL STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HIS FATHER WAS FROM NOTTINGHAM. HIS MOTHER WAS BORN IN HULL. THERE WERE SIX SONS AND TWO DAUGHTERS. THE FAMILY WORKED IN THE COTTON SPINNING FACTORIES.

WILLIAM HEARD WAS A MULE SPINNER. HE IS RECORDED AS BORN IN HULL AND ENLISTED IN HULL, IN THE SOLDIERS DIED RECORDS. HE SERVED WITH THE 4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 29/07/1915, AGED 18.

HE IS LISTED AS KILLED ON HULL’S NORNABELL STREET MEMORIAL. Hull Daily Mail 08 November 1916.

HIS BROTHER, ALBERT HEARD, 12TH SUFFOLK REGIMENT, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 28/09/1918, AGED 18.

HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, JOSEPH HEARD, RAMC WAS KILLED ON 13/02/1944, DURING WW2.
