BORN HULL 18/2/1875. WIFE ELIZABETH JANE HEPWORTH, C/O MRS DAWSON ABOVE ADDRESS & ALSO LIVED AT 1 IVY TERRACE, SELBY STREET. HIS STEP SON CHARLIE BAILEY AND BROTHER IN LAW, JAMES WILLIAM HODGSON, (WASSAND STREET), WERE ALL LOST ON THE SAME SHIP, WHEN IT HIT A MINE. THE REST OF THE CREW WERE SAVED. THEIR DEATHS WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 9TH NOVEMBER 1915.

HMT Scott, built by Cochrane & Sons Ltd, Selby in 1913 and operated at the time of her loss by Royal Navy, was a British navy trawler of 288 tons.
On October 22nd, 1915, HMT Scott was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-1 (Egon von Werner), off the Tongue lightvessel. 3 persons were lost.
