BORN HULL 1893. SON OF THOMAS & MARY ELIZABETH HODGSON, OF 1 PERSEVERENCE TERRACE, FOUNTAIN ROAD, HULL. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. AND WAS A SERVING SOLDIER WITH THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WHEN WAR BEGAN. PROMOTED TO LANCE CORPORAL. HE ARRIVED IN FRANCE WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 26/09/1914, AGED 21.’

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, MARY ELIZABETH. HE ALSO LEFT LILY & BOB AT THIS ADDRESS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 23/10/1914, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH, & 20/09/1917. *

HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE CLIFTON STREET SCHOOL ROLL OF HONOUR. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON LA FERTE-SOUS-JOUARRE MEMORIAL, FRANCE.
