BORN WORLABY, LINCS 1885. ONLY SON OF GEORGE BRANTON HOODLASS (1859-1955) & JANE WITHERS HOODLASS (1864-1946). HE HAD A YOUNGER SISTER CALLED GERTRUDE. HE MARRIED CHARLOTTE ANN TURNER (1887-1934), ON 04/05/1912, IN HULL. HIS WIFE CHARLOTTE LIVED AT 5 CARRINGTON AVENUE, MANVERS STREET, HULL (ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS). THEIR DAUGHTER, NORAH, WAS BORN ON 10/05/1915. A RECKITT’S WORKER, PAPER PACKER AND TRAM DIVER. HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 09/12/1915. SERVED AS A GUNNER, IN THE ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 9.5 INCHES TALL, 36.5 INCH CHEST. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 27/03/1917. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 29/06/1917, AGED 33. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, CHARLOTTE. HE IS BURIED AT KLEIN-VIERSTRAAT BRITISH CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “OUR HERO”.

HE WAS BROTHER IN LAW OF THE NIX BROTHERS ALSO KILLED IN THE WAR.
