Seaman, Arthur Horton

BORN BEVERLEY 19/02/1881. SON OF WILLIAM AND JANE HORTON, OF BEVERLEY. HE LIVED WITH HIS HIS SISTER AT 5 WHITFIELD AVENUE, DIVISION ROAD, HULL.

HMT Corientes, built by Cook, Welton & Gemmell, Ltd., Beverley in 1910 and operated at the time of her loss by Royal Navy, was a British navy trawler of 280 tons. On June 23rd, 1917, HMT Corientes was sunk by a mine from the German submarine U-79 (Otto Rohrbeck), 4 miles northeast of Malin Head. 13 persons were lost. Allen Tony 24/03/2008 Corienties HMT was a British Armed Navy Trawler of 280 tons built in 1910 by Beverly Shipyard, Hill for T W Bascomb, Grimsby as the registered FV Corienties Gy 552. In February 1915 she was drafted into the Royal Navy as a Minesweeper and fitted with a single 6 pounder gun. On the 23rd June 1917 she struck a mine whilst patrolling off Malin Head and sank.
