BORN BEVERLEY, 1887. FOURTH SON OF ROBERT HUNSLEY (1855-1940) & LOUISA BELCHER (1854-1904), OF 43 NORWOOD GROVE BEVERLEY (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A JOINER AND CABINET MAKER. HIS MOTHER DIED IN 1904. A FORMER BRICKLAYER. HE ENLISTED IN BECVERLEY AND WAS KILLED ON THE SOMME. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER.

THE THREE HUNSLEY BROTHERS KILLED WERE :-

PRIVATE, FRANK HUNSLEY, 4TH LONDON REGIMENT, KILLED IN ACTION, ON 26/09/1917, AGED 26. COMMEMORATED AT TYNE COT.

PRIVATE, THOMAS HUNSLEY, EAST YORKS REGIMENT, KILLED IN GREECE ON 16/11/1916, AGED 30. COMMEMORTED ON THE DORIAN MEMORIAL, MACEDONIA.

PRIVATE, ROBERT HUNSLEY, 1/4 NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS, KILLED IN ACTION, ON 15/09/1916, AGED 29. LISTED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.

Robert Hunsley was born the 23 April 1887 in Beverley, the son of Robert and Louisa Hunsley. On leaving school he was apprenticed as a bricklayer

He joined the 1st/4th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (149th Brigade). He was reported as missing in action at Mametz Wood on the Somme on 15 September 1916.

Robert was awarded the Victory Medal and British War Medal. He is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial.

Two of his brothers, Frank and Tom were also killed in action.
