Isley, John Rowlands

BORN DIDLINGTON, NORFOLK 1893. SON OF ALFRED ISLEY (1852-1905) & SUSANNAH ‘LILY’ CHAMBERS, (1851-1934), OF 200 NEWBRIDGE ROAD, HULL. A WOOD JOINER. HE BOARDED WITH HIS BROTHER IN LAW, AT AT 30 WYNBURG STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS)

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. FORMERLY, GUNNER, 56726, R.G.A. TRANSFERRED TO THE 9TH WARWICKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, IN IRAQ, ON 25/01/1917, AGED 24.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, LILY AND SISTER BLANCHE. HIS MOTHER HAD LOST BOTH SONS IN THE WAR.

HIS OLDER BROTHER, WILLIAM ALFRED ISLEY, WAS A PIONEER SERGEANT, WITH THE 19TH AUSTRALIAN IMPERIAL FORCE, AND WAS KILLED AT FLERS, ON 14/11/1916, AGED 31. THEY LEFT A WIDOWED MOTHER AND THREE SISTERS IN HULL. URSULA HIS SISTER DIED IN HULL, IN 1917, AGED 33.
