BORN BRIGG, LINCOLNSHIRE, 1889. SON OF ANYAN HARNES JACKLING (1859-1927) AND JESSIE SOPHIA BRAMLEY (1863-1919), OF 96 EGTON STREET, WITHAM, HULL. ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN. TWO BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS.

HUSBAND OF SARAH ELIZABETH FARNILL (1888-1983) AND HER FAMILY AT 82 GLASGOW STREET, HULL. HE HAD MARRIED HER, AT ST JOHNS, NEWINGTON, HULL, ON 21/12/1912. THEY WERE LIVING AT 5 MYRTLE GROVE, SELBY STREET, HULL IN 1915.

HE. WORKED AS A WAREHOUSEMAN. DESCRIBED AS 6 FOOT TALL, 181 LBS WEIGHT, AND 38 INCH CHEST AND ‘GOOD’ PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 20/11/1915, AGED 26 YEARS AN 330 DAYS. HE ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 13/10/1916. TRANSFERRED FROM THE 4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, TO THE 7TH BATTALION, ON 27/10/1916. HE HAD BEEN IN FRANCE FOR ONLY 3 WEEKS, WHEN HE WAS KILLED AT THE SOMME, ON 05/11/1916, AGED 27. HIS BODY WAS NEVER FOUND AND HE COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 351 DAYS.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, SARAH, AT 24 GLASGOW STREET, HULL. THEY HAD NO CHILDREN. SHE WAS GIVEN A WEEKLY WAR PENSION OF 13 SHILLINGS FOR THE LOSS OF HER HUSBAND.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL, AT ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, NEWINGTON, HULL, WHERE HE MARRIED.
