Jackson, Edmund (Eddie)

BORN HULL 1868. SHIP’S SKIPPER KILLED AT SEA, ON 16/04/1917. BROTHER OF J. W. JACKSON, AT 59 , LOUIS STREET, HULL. SON OF EDMUND AND ANN JACKSON, OF KNOTTINGLEY, YORKSHIRE. HIS WIFE, ALICE JACKSON LIVED NORTH SHIELDS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 25/04/1917.

SS Marden, built by Smith’s Dock Co. Ltd., North Shields in 1909 and owned at the time of her loss by L. S. Carr & Co., Newcastle, was a British steamer of 297 tons.
On April 16th, 1917, Marden, on a voyage from Tréport to Newcastle in ballast, was sunk by gunfire by the German submarine UB-36 (Harald von Keyserlingk), 6 miles northwest from Cap Gris Nez. 1 person was lost.
