Jipson, Harry

Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE HARRY JIPSON 10/1351. Born 1900, in Eastrington, East Yorkshire. Harry was the eldest son of Arthur and Emily Jipson of 73 Regent Street, Anlaby Road, Hull. A Shoemaker by trade, he enlisted at City Hall, on 21st May 1915, He missed serving in Egypt and instead trained in the UK until he left for France in June 1916. He had transferred from the 10th, to the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment the previous August. Harry was killed in action on 24th August 1916, though this was only verified by the written testimony of another soldier, as at first he had simply disappeared and was listed as ‘missing’. His name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial. He had given his age at enlistment as 19 but Harry Jipson was born in 1900- he was 16 years old.
