EARL OF ELGIN SS was a 4,448grt defensively-armed British Merchant ship built in 1909 by Russell & Co., Port Glasgow, Yard No 593 for Marshall & Dobbie, Glasgow. In 1916 she was acquired by Anglo-American Oil Co., Glasgow. On the 7th December 1917 when on route from London for Dublin she was torpedoed by German submarine UC-75 and sunk when 10 miles W ½ S from Carnarvon Bay Light Vessel, England. 18 lives lost including Master.
