BORN HULL 1890. SON OF JOSEPH EMANUELLE POUGHER AND MARY JANE POUGHER, AT 67 SOUTH PARADE, HULL AND 13 PRINCES AVENUE, WHEELER STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HIS REAL NAME WAS ‘ BEN POUGHER. HE’ SERVED AS WILLIAM JOHNSON.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. WENT TO FRANCE WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE, 0N 14/09/1914. SERVED WITH “B” COMPANY, THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. REPORTED MISSING. THEN KILLED IN ACTION, ON 26/09/1916, AGED 26. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING ON THE SOMME.

HIS SISTER, MRS CLARIDGE, OF 4 WILSON’S AVENUE, RHODES STREET, HULL, APPEALED FOR INFORMATION IN THE HDM, ON 23/12/1916.
HIS BROTHER, SECOND YEOMAN OF SIGNALS, WILLIAM HENRY POUGHER, ROYAL NAVY, WAS LOST ON HMS ‘HOGUE’, ON THE 22/09/1914, AGED 39, AND LIVED WITH HIS WIFE, ELIZA LOUISE DOWELL, AT 6 ICEHOUSE TERRACE, CAMBRIDGE STREET, HULL
