BORN HULL 1879. (ALIAS ‘ASHTON’) SON OF CHARLES ASHTON & CATHERINE KELLY (1862-1906). ONE OF TEN CHILDREN, ALL WITH THE SURNAME OF ASHTON.

WORKED AS A DOCK LABOURER. HE MARRIED AT SCULCOATES, IN 1896. HIS WIFE SARAH ANN PULLON (SWEET) & THEIR FOUR CHILDREN, LIVED LEEDS (1911 CENSUS) AND THEN AT 24 , HODGSON STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE KING’S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERERS. LEFT FOR GALLIPOLI, ON 18/07/1915. KILLED IN ACTION AT THE DARDENELLES, ON 13/08/1915, AGED 36. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, SARAH ANN NORTON.

HIS NAME IS LISTED ON ST CHARLES’ CHURCH BORROMEO MEMORIAL, JARRATT STREET, HULL.

HIS DEATH IS RECORDED ON THE HODGSON STREET ROLL OF HONOUR (Hull Daily Mail 20 October 1916).
HIS ADDRESS AND DEATH WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL TIMES, ON THE 11TH SEPTEMBER 1915, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
