BORN AMSTERDAM 1897. SON OF ANDRIES KOOY. WIFE MAGGIE PATFIELD KOOY LIVED AT THIS CWGC ADDRESS. SHIP SUNK BY SUBMARINE. HULL MERCHANT NAVY RECORDS. COMMEMORATED ON THE TOWER HILL NAVAL MEMORIAL, LONDON.
SS Saxon, built by T. Turnbull & Son, Whitby in 1881 and owned at the time of her loss by Entente SS. Co. Ltd. (Leopold Walford), was a British steamer of 1.595 tons. On May 7th, 1918, Saxon, on a voyage from Odde to Leith with a cargo of carbide, was sunk by the German submarine U-105 (Friedrich Strackerjan), 83 miles ESE of Fair Isle. 22 persons were lost.

Launched 23rd November, 1881 and completed December, 1881 and named SAXON. Vessel was torpedoed by U-105 83nm ESE of Fair Is on the 7th May, 1918
