BORN HULL 1894. ONLY SON OF WILLIAM LANGDALE (1871-1927) & KATE SYKES (1870-1962), OF 34, CANNON STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE HAD ONE SISTER, DORIS. HE WAS A GROCER’S MANAGER FOR JACKSONS ESQUIRE.

HE ENLISTED INTO THE HULL COMMERCIALS, ON 30/01/1915, AGED 20 YEARS AND 7 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 4.5 INCHES TALL, 34 INCH CHEST, 126 LBS WEIGHT, AND “GOOD” PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. SERVED WITH THE 10TH EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION. EMBARKED FROM DEVONPORT TO EGYPT. TRANSFERRED TO FRANCE, ON 08/03/1916. WOUNDED IN ACTION, ON 19/09/1916. REJOINED HIS UNIT AND KILLED IN ACTION, ON 12/03/1917, AGED 22. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE RETURNED TO HIS MOTHER, KATE.
HE IS BURIED AT EUSTON ROAD CEMETERY, COLINCAMPS, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “GOD IS OUR REFUGE AND STRENGTH A VERY PRESENT HELP IN TROUBLE”.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 31/03/1917. *
