BORN HULL 1879. SON OF JANE REBECCA & JOHN FROST LINDO. HE MARRIED 1898. WIFE REBECCA (TAYLOR) AND SIX CHILDREN, LIVED AT THIS ADDRESS. A FISHERMAN AND DOCK LABOURER. ENLISTED FOR WAR SERVICE. LOST AT SEA, WHEN THE STEAM SHIP ‘KHARTOUM’, WAS MINED ON 26/03/1916. HE WAS AGED 37. HIS OLDEST SON ALSO CALLED FRED LINDO, WAS LOST AT SEA ON THE ‘LORD ROBERTS, 26/10/1916, AGED 18.
Khartoum, built by Cook, Welton & Gemmell, Hull in 1899 and owned at the time of her loss by Hull Steam Fishing & Ice Co. Ltd., Hull, was a British fishing vessel of 303 tons. On March 26th, 1916, Khartoum fishing was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-5 (Ulrich Mohrbutter), 6 miles northeast of the Longstone lightvessel. 9 persons were lost.
