BORN HEDON, HULL,  1884. ONLY SON OF MRS ANNE ELIZA LONSDALE, SOUTHERGATE, HEDON (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). A RULLYMAN IN THE HAY AND STRAW TRADE.

HE ENLISTED IN THE NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS ON 18/03/1915. HE LEFT FOR FRANCE IN JULY 1916. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 3591, 1/4TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. HE WAS KILLED AT THE SOMME, ON 15/09/1916 AND IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL HE WAS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR YOUTHS IN HEDON AND A FREQUENT ATTENDER OF THE CHAPEL. HE LEFT £111 TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER IN HIS WILL. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 18TH OCTOBER 1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. ONE OF 18 NAMES LISTED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL, IVY LANE HEDON.
