ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 20/05/1916, AGED 18. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 2.5 INCHES TALL, 33.5 INCH CHEST, 110 LBS WEIGHT. MOBILIZED ON 23/01/1917. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 20/06/1917. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 33300, 8TH YORK AND LANCASTER REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 22/10/1917, AGED 19.
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE NICHOLSON STREET ROLL OF HONOUR. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WHICH INCLUDED A PRAYER BOOK AND POSTCARDS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, PERCY. HE LEFT AN ELDER BROTHER, PERCY AND FOUR OLDER SISTERS. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL, TO THOSE KILLED AT PASSCHENDAELE.
