BORN SOUTHAMPTON 1893. LIVED IN HULL. SON OF SUSAN MARTIN. HE HAD A STEP BROTHER, GEORGE DRINKALL AND SISTERS, EMMA RUTLEDGE AND CLARA GOODWIN.

HE WORKED AS A SAIL MAKER LABOURER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 2 INCHES TALL, 35.5 INCH CHEST AND 133 LBS WEIGHT.

HE LIVED AT, 3 CAMPBELL’S PLACE, ALICIA STREET, CHARLES STREET, HULL (HIS ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS),  WITH HIS MOTHER SUSAN.

HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS, ON 14/11/1914. SERVED WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT (4TH HULL PALS), IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. TRANSFERRED TO THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 29/07/1917, AGED 24. DURING A SUCCESSFUL, NIGHT, TRENCH RAID, NORTH OF ROEUX (SEVEN MILITARY MEDALS WERE AWARDED). BURIED AT BROWN’S COPSE CCEMETERY, ROUEX, FRANCE.

UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, SUSAN.
