BORN HULL 1889. SON OF WILLIAM & SARAH JANE MOOR, AT 13, OWEN’S SQUARE, NEW GEORGE STREET, HULL,. HE MARRIED AT WEST HAM , EAST LONDON, IN 1917. HIS WIFE, AMELIA GREENHAM, LIVED AT 230 ROMFORD ROAD, FOREST GATE.

HE SERVED AS FOURTH ENGINEER, ON THE TANKER, ‘POWHATAN’. SUNK BU UB-66, ON 06/04/1917. 36 CREW WERE LOST AND THE CAPTAIN WAS TAKEN PRISONER. ERNEST MOOR WAS AGED 26. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TOWER HULL NAVAL MEMORIAL, LONDON.

Powhatan, built by Sir James Laing, Sunderland in 1898 and owned at the time of her loss by Standard Transportation Co. Ltd., Hong Kong, was a British tanker of 6117 tons. On April 6th, 1917, Powhatan, on a voyage from Sabine to Kirkwall with a cargo of fuel oil, was sunk by the German submarine U-66 (Thorwald von Bothmer), 25 miles NxW of North Rona, Outer Hebrides. 36 persons were lost.
