Murray, Robert Edward

BORN GRIMSBY 1898. ELDEST SON OF JOHN & ISABELLA MURRAY, OF 67, BRIDGE, GRIMSBY AND 1, SACKVILLE TERRACE, FERRIES STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). BROTHERS JOSEPH, PATRICK AND BERNARD AND SISTER CATHERINE. HE WAS A MOULDING MACHINE ASSISTANT. NEPHEW OF MR R THRUSSLE, 1OF 6, WELTON TERRACE, WASSAND STREET.

HE ENLISTED AT GRIMSBY, AS PTE, 9554, MURRAY, LINCS REGIMENT. HE WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE HEAVY MACHINE GUN CORPS (TANKS). HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, AT THE BATTLE OF ARRAS, ON 11TH APRIL 1917, AGED 19. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE RETURNED TO HIS FATHER, JOHN MURRAY.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 15TH AUGUST 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *

HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, JOSEPH MURRAY, 203235, 4TH LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT, DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 20/04/1918.
