Nichols, William John Winter

BORN SOUTH SHIELDS, DURHAM, 28/03/1880. SON OF SUSANNAH WINTER (1845-1924) AND LATE CHARLES GEORGE NICHOLS (1842-1915), OF 78, SAVILLE STREET, GATESHEAD. HE HAD SEVEN BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. EMPLOYED BY THE BRITISH GAS LIGHT AND COKE COMPANY. HULL.

ENLISTED AT HULL, JOINING THE HULL RAILWAY PALS. SERVED WITH THE 17TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 16/07/1916, AGED 36. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, SUSANNAH.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE BRITISH GAS LIGHT AND COKE COMPANY WAR MEMORIAL, KEPT AT THE FAKENHAM GAS WORKS MUSEUM, NORFOLK.
