BORN HULL 1884. SON OF HARRY PADLEY (1861-1915) & ELIZABETH WINTER JEFFERSON (1863-1923), OF 108 HESSLE ROAD, HULL (1901 CENSUS) AND 38 SOUTH PARADE, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 115 REGENT STREET, HULL. SON OF A DOCK LABOURER. ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN. HIS BROTHERS HARRY & ALBERT BOTH MERCHANT SEAMAN SERVED AT THE SAME ADDRESS. CHARLES PADLEY HAD SPENT TWELVE AND HALF YEARS IN THE ARMY, SERVING IN THE BOER WAR AND INDIA. LEFT FOR FRANCE IN OCTOBER 1914. SERVED IN THE 1ST NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. DIED ON 21/06/1915, AGED 30. HE WAS DUE 5 DAYS LEAVE ON THE DAY HE WAS WOUNDED. DIED OF WOUNDS RECEIVED AT YPRES, ON 21/06/1915, AGED 30.
HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 8TH JULY 1915, AND THE HULL TIMES, ON 10TH JULY 1915, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HE IS BURIED AT BAILLEUL COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, NORD. HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, DAN PADLEY, KING’S OWN ROYAL LANCASTER REGIMENT WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 23/10/1918, AGED 19.
