Lance Corporal   PIERCY, ERNEST HERBERT

Born Beverley, 1891. Son of Alfred Piercy (1861-1918) and Edith Maria Bradley (1857-1946), of 73 Fleming Gate, Beverley (1911 Census address).

His father was born in Pocklington and worked as a Tanner Labourer (1901 Census) and then as a Bricklayer. His mother was born in Hull.

He had one brother, Alfred henry Piercy (1890-1950) and one sister, Eva Ellen Piercy (1893-1960), both born in Beverley.

He married at Beverley, on 03/08/1915, aged 24. Husband of Nora Ellen Hunsley (1889–1938), of 11, Leconfield, (war Pension address) and 41, Westwood Road., Beverley, Yorkshire (CWGC address)

He enlisted in Hull. Joined the  529th Royal Engineers (West Riding) Field Company. He died of asphyxiation, while on active service, on 01/02/1917, aged 25.

His army effects went to his widow, Nora Ellen Piercy. She remarried and became Mrs Lundie. She received a weekly war pension, of 13 shillings and ninepence, on 01/10/1917. They had no children. His father died the following year, aged 57.

He is buried at Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, France. His CWGC grave inscription, reads  LOVED AND REMEMBERED
