Pippet, Cyril Vellenworth

Hull Pals Memorial Post. CORPORAL, CYRIL VELLENWORTH PIPPET 220264. Born in Everthorpe, Yorkshire in July 1890. Cyril was the eldest of three children to Benedict and Margaret Pippet of Market Rasen. Boarding at 25 Albany Street, Hull before the war he worked as a Clerk and married Gladys Olivia Raines in October 1914. Joining the 11th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, Cyril was killed in action on 27th March 1918 during the German Spring Offensive and his body was never recovered. His name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial; he was 27 years old. His parent’s grief was not yet over, for their youngest child John was killed in action on 29th May 1918, serving with the Lincolnshire Regiment. John had been awarded the Military Medal for his bravery in the field. Benedict and Margaret Pippet gave both their sons to the war and severed their male bloodline forever.
