BORN HULL 1891. SON OF JOHN ALFRED SEATH (1855-1935) & EMILY SLINGSBY SEATH, OF 8, ROLANDS AVENUE, ARTHUR STREET, HULL AND 23, ARTHUR STREET, HULL. HE WAS A CABINET MAKER AND EAST YORKSHIRE TERRITORIAL SOLDIER. LIVED AT 52 GRANVILLE STREET, HULL.

HE MOVED TO AUSTRALIA ON 27/07/1911, WHERE HE WORKED AS A CABINET MAKER.

HIS ARMY MEDICAL RECORDS DESCRIBED HIM AS 5 FOOT, 8.5 INCHES TALL, 126 LBS WEIGHT, 32-34 INCH CHEST, HAZEL EYES, FAIR HAIR, RUPTURE SCAR ON LOWER ABDOMEN AND LEFT TESTICLE REMOVED, CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION.

HIS WIFE, LILY, LIVED AT ROBERTSON STREET, CANTERBURY, SIDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES.

HE ENLISTED AT VICTORIA BARRACKS TO JOIN THE AUSTRALIAN IMPERIAL FORCE, ON 13/12/1916. LEFT FOR ENGLAND ON 24/01/1917 AND ARRIVED ON 23/03/1917. AFTER TRAINING IN ENGLAND, HE WAS POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 23/08/1917. WOUNDED IN ACTION, (RIGHT ARM AND THIGH), ON 12/10/1917. REJOINED UNIT, ON 18/04/1918. SERVED WITH THE 9TH AUSTRALIAN LIGHT MORTAR BATTERY. WOUNDED IN THE HEAD, ARM AND LEG, ON THE SOMME. HE DIED OF A FRACTURED SKULL, AT THE 61ST CASUALTY CLEARING STATION, ON 05/05/1918, AGED 27.

HE IS BURIED AT VIGNACOURT BRITISH CEMETERY, SOMME, FRANCE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, LILY. IT WAS SEVEN MONTHS BEFORE SHE RECEIVED ANY BACK PAY OR PERSONAL EFFECTS.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL, AT ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, NEWINGTON, HULL.
