Hull Pals Memorial Post. SGT HARRY SELLERS MM 11/772. Born in 1893, Harry was the third of ten children to William and Amelia Sellers of 140 Severn Street, Hull. A Ship’s Cook by trade he enlisted in Hull City Hall on Thursday 10th September 1914 joining the 11th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, ‘The Tradesmen’, 2nd Hull Pals. A veteran of Egypt, the Somme, Oppy Wood and the Spring Offensive he earned the Military Medal for conspicuous bravery in the face of danger en route. A member of D Company, Harry was killed in action at La Becque on 30th June 1918 so close to the end of the war, and yet so far away. He is buried at Aval Wood Military Cemetery; he was 25 years old.
