BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED AS AN APPRENTICE BLACKSMITH AT EARLE’S SHIP BUILDERS. KILLED IN ACTION, AGED 22. HE SERVED WITH THE 529TH EAST RIDING ROYAL ENGINEERS. HE WAS KILLED ON 18/06/1917, AGED 22.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON THE 3RD JULY 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *

HE IS REMEMBERED ON THE EAST RIDING ROYAL ENGINEER’S MEMORIAL AT HULL MINSTER. HOWEVER HIS SURNAME IS SPELT “F.L. SIMMONDS”
