BORN HULL 22/05/1896. SON OF JOHN EDWARD SMITH (1855-1942) & MARY WISE (1855-1934), OF 65 ALEXANDRA ROAD, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF AN INSURANCE AGENT. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER.

EDUCATED AT HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL. A BANK CLERK BEFORE THE WAR. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 26TH ROYAL FUSILIERS (BANKERS BATTALION). HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 04/10/1916, AGED 20.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL MEMORIAL AND THETHIEPVAL MEMORIAL, FRANCE.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 20/12/1916.
