BORN HULL 1897. SON OF RICHARD & ELIZABETH ANN SMITH, AT 3 LIVERPOOL STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). A HULL CORPORATION TRAMWAY ELECTRICAL WORKER. RICHARD WAS A BRASS FINISHER AT THE ANLABY ROAD, TRAM SHEDS, FOR THREE YEARS BEFORE THE WAR.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS A GUNNER, IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. POSTED TO FRANCE, 20/04/1915. DIED OF WOUNDS, AT YPRES, ON 15/05/1915, AGED 19.  HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, ELIZABETH ANN SMITH, WHO WAS DESCRIBED AS “WHOLLY IMPAIRED”.

HIS DEATH WAS ALSO REPORTED IN THE HULL TIMES, ON 5TH JUNE 1915, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
