BORN GREAT YARMOUTH, NORFOLK, 28/02/1877. SON OF THOMAS & JANE SMITH (CWGC RECORDS). WIDOW MARY ANN SMITH. HE LIVED WITH HIS SISTER AT 13 LEES WALK, WALTON STREET, HULL. LOST ON THE FISHING VESSEL “KHARTOUM”, ON 26/03/1916, AGED 37. HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE LOST TRAWLERMEN OF HULL RECORDS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 15/06/1916. *

Khartoum, built by Cook, Welton & Gemmell, Hull in 1899 and owned at the time of her loss by Hull Steam Fishing & Ice Co. Ltd., Hull, was a British fishing vessel of 303 tons. On March 26th, 1916, Khartoum fishing was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-5 (Ulrich Mohrbutter), 6 miles northeast of the Longstone lightvessel. 9 persons were lost.
