BORN HULL 1899. SON OF THOMAS & ANNIE ELIZABETH STAINFORTH, OF 14 NORTH STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS) AND 61 HOPWOOD STREET, HULL. SON OF A HOUSE PAINTER. HE WAS ONE OF NINE CHILDREN. WORKED AS A JUNIOR CHEMIST. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6 INCHES TALL, 116 LBS WEIGHT,34- 36 INCH CHEST SIZE.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 19/10/1916, AGED 17 AND WAS CALLED UP FOR SERVICE, ON 21/09/1917. TRAINED AT CATTERICK, YORKSHIRE. TRANSFERRED TO THE 22ND DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY, ON 05/12/1917. HE WAS POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 01/04/1918. TAKEN PRISONER, ON 27/05/1918. HE DIED OF EXHAUSTION AND CARDIAC WEAKNESS, AT THE UKRAINE CAMP HOSPITAL, RANSTATT, ON 14/09/1918, AGED 19. HE IS BURIED IN GERMANY.
