BORN HULL 1877. SON OF WILLIAM AND EMMA STONES, OF 22 PEEL STREET, HULL . GRANDSON OF WILLIAM AND HANNAH DAWS, OF 4 LANDSDOWNE STREET, HULL. BROTHER TO ARTHUR AND ELSIE. HE WORKED AS A DOCK LABOURER, FOR MESSRS, JOHN GOOD & SONS, VICTORIA DOCK, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND AS A BICYCLE MAKER.

HE MARRIED IN HULL, ON 18/07/1884. HUSBAND TO EDITH OGLESBY. THEY HAD TEN CHILDREN (8 BOYS AND 2 GIRLS), AND LIVED AT 100 NEWSTEAD STREET, HULL AND 19 CLARENDON STREET, HULL (ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 27/03/1915, AGED 40 YEARS AND 5 MONTHS. HIS ARMY RECORDS DESCRIBE HIM, AS 5 FOOT, 6.5 INCHES TALL, 144 LBS WEIGHT, AND 35.5 INCH CHEST SIZE. HE WAS A RIFLEMAN, POSTED TO THE 1ST KINGS ROYAL RIFLE CORPS, ON 06/07/1915. ARRIVED IN FRANCE THE NEXT DAY. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 25/07/1916, AGED 39. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, EDITH. SHE MOVED NOT FAR TO 79 CLARENDON STREET, WITH HER TEN CHILDREN.
