BORN HULL 02/08/1885. SON OF CHRISTOPHER ROBERT SYKES (1851-1924) & BETSY CALVERT, OF 78 MAYFIELD STREET, HULL. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER.

A JOINER, WORKING FOR MESSRS. SIMPSON OF WOODCOCK STREET, HULL. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6 INCHES TALL, 34 INCH CHEST SIZE.

HUSBAND OF FLORENCE MABEL SYKES, OF 32 , ELLA STREET, HULL, (CWGC ADDRESS)

HE ENLISTED IN THE 5TH CYCLISTS EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT  (TERRITORIALS), AT HULL, ON 30/06/1908. HE WAS DISCHARGED AFTER 4 YEARS SERVICE ON 22/06/1912. RE-ENLISTED WHEN WAR BEGAN. SERVED AS A SAPPER, IN THE 448TH EAST RIDING ROYAL ENGINEERS. HE DIED AT MUMBAI, INDIA, ON 01/03/1919, AGED 35.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, FLORENCE MABEL.
