BORN PLAISTOW 1899. SON OF HENRY & MARY A. TANNER, OF  PLAISTOW, LONDON. THE EIGHTH OF NINE CHILDREN. BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED FOR MESSRS. MARKS & SUGARMAN, CABINET MAKERS, OSBORNE STREET, HULL.

Pte, Thomas Tanner, 8th Gordon Highlanders

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED IN THE 6TH GORDON HIGHLANDERS. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 23/11/1916, AGED 18. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 11/12/1916. *

HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, 8822, CHARLES FREDERICK TANNER, 2ND ESSEX REGIMENT WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON  21/11/1914, AGED 27 AND IS COMMEMORATED ON THE PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL, HAINAUT, BELGIUM. THEIR SISTER, MRS JONES LIVED AT 68 GOODWIN STREET, WALKER STREET, HULL. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 21/11/1919.
