Taylor, Cyril

Born Grimsby 1896. Third son of John George Taylor. and Elizabeth May Taylor, of of 3, Oxford Street, Grimsby (1911 Census); 242, Victor Street, Grimsby (Army address); 84, Castle Street, Grimsby and 18, Victoria Avenue, Willerby, Hull (war pension addresses). He worked as a Labourer, Had two elder brothers and two younger sisters.

Enlisted at Grimsby, on 12 April 1915. Served three years in France, with the 5th Lincolnshire Regiment. Died of gas shell wounds, on 14 Oct 1918, aged 22. Buried at Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, France. his grave inscription, reads, HE SLEEPS WITH ENGLAND’S HEROES IN THE WATCHFUL CARE OF GOD.

His elder brothers, John William Taylor served in the Royal Field Artillery and Sergeant, Ernest George Maughan Taylor, served with the Sherwood Foresters.
