Born Stockton-on-tees, Durham, 1887. His father was an Iron Moulder from Scotland. His mother was born in Meltonby.
Son of James Taylor (1860-1924) and Elizabeth Ann Dent Wetherall (1863-1907), of Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland; he had three brothers and two sisters.
Husband of Eliza Taylor (born 14 Oct 1885), of 4, George Terrace, Camelon, Falkirk (CWGC address) and 10, Haltemprice Street, Hawthorne Avenue, Hull (War pension address). They had two sons, James William and Harold Taylor.
Enlisted at birmingham, Warwickshire. Served as CSM in “A” Company, the 7th Seaforth Highlanders. Posted to France on 10 May 1915. Killed in action, at Ypres, on 8 Dec 1915, aged 28.
Buried at Railway Dugouts Burial Ground Transport Farm, Belgium.
His army effects were left to his widow, Eliza, who moved to Hull. Awarded a weekly war pension of 20/6 shillings on 3 July 1916.
