BORN HULL 1890. SON OF THOMAS THORPE & ELIZABETH SOLLITT. A HAIRDRESSER, EMPLOYED BY MR McKENZIE, KING EDWARD STREET, HULL. HE ENLISTED AT BEVERLEY, ON 10/12/1915. SENT TO FRANCE 11/06/1916. KILLED AT SERRE 13/11/1916, AGED 25. HE WAS UNMARRIED AND HAD NO CHILDREN. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 23/03/1917. *

Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE FRANK LAMBERT THORPE 21659. Born in 1890, Frank was one of six children to Thomas and Elizabeth Thorpe of Sunnyside, Anlaby Common, Hull. A Hairdresser before the war he enlisted at City Hall on 10th December 1915 being first attached to the 14th, then the 11th before joining the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment in France during June 1916 to help fill gaps in the lines left by the steady losses of day to day life in the trenches of the Western Front. Frank was killed in action on 13th November 1916 at Serre on the Somme and his body was never recovered. His name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial; he was 26 years old.
