HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 22/06/1915. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 14/04/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, ON 15/05/1916. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 14/07/1916, AGED 20.

HIS ELDER BROTHER, PRIVATE, REGINALD TONKINSON, 10486, 11TH ROYAL FUSILIERS, DIED OF WAR WOUNDS, ON 27/02/1917. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS SISTERS, GLADYS M. PRICE AND ELSIE. THE BROTHERS ARE COMMEMORATED ON THE NORWOOD STREET MEMORIAL, BEVERLEY, WITH THEIR OTHER BROTHER SIDNEY, WHO SERVED IN THE CANADIAN ENGINEERS.
