BORN HULL 03/05/1891. SON OF THOMAS GIBSON WADDINTON (1857-1937) & FANNY ELLEN MARSHALL (1864-1944), OF “FERN BANK”, COTTINGHAM ROAD, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF A FARMER. ONE OF FIVE SONS. EDUCATED AT HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL. WORKED AS A WOOL MERCHANT. HE ENLISTED IN HULL COMMERCIALS, ON 02/09/1914, AGED 23 AND 5 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7.5 INCHES TALL, 37.5 INCH CHEST, 153 LBS WEIGHT, “RUDDY” COMPLEXION, HAZEL EYES AND DARK BROWN HAIR, WESLEYAN RELIGION, GOOD VISION AND GOOD PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 10/231. 10TH EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION, IN EGYPT. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 08/03/1916.WOUNDED ON 17/08/1916. OPERATED IN FRANCE. RETURNED TO ENGLAND NEXT DAY. DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL ON 09/11/1916. COMMISSIONED AS SECOND LIEUTENANT, AND TRANSFERRED TO THE ROYAL AIR FORCE, ON 21/06/1917. HE DIED IN FRANCE ON 25/11/1918, AGED 27. HE LEFT £189 IN HIS WILL TO HIS FATHER, AT THIS PROBATE ADDRESS.
UNMARRIED. HE ALSO LEFT SURVIVING BROTHERS, CHARLES SYDNEY, AND THOMAS EDGAR WADDINGTON.
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL MEMORIAL. HE IS BURIED AT CAMBRAI EAST MILITARY CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “SAFE IN GOD’S KEEPING”
