Walsh, Anthony

BORN HULL 21/01/1874. SON OF ANTHONY AND CATHERINE WALSH. ONE OF ELEVEN CHILDREN. THE FAMILY LIVED AT 14 NEWTON COURT ALDBORO STREET IN 1881; 3 SCOTTS PLACE, SCOTT STREET IN 1901; AND 4 WOODBINE TERRACE, RODNEY STREET IN 1911 AND 5 WOODBINE AVENUE, WATERLOO STREET IN 1916. AN OIL MILL LABOURER LIVING AT 73 GRANGE STREET. HE HAD PREVIOUSLY SERVED IN THE YORKSHIRE REGIMENT FOR 10 YEARS. HE RE-ENLISTED ON THE 14/11/1914 IN HULL, AT THE AGE OF 33 YEARS AND 300 DAYS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 8 INCHES TALL, 143 LBS, BLACK HAIR AND BLUE EYES. TATTOOS ON BOTH ARMS. HE WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE ARMY WITH MANIA IN 1916 AND COMMITTED TO BEVERLEY ASYLUM WHERE HE DIED IN MAY 1916.
HIS BROTHER PTE, THOMAS WALSH, YORK AND LANCS, WAS KILLED ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE BATTLE OF THE SOMME – 1ST JULY 1916. HIS OTHER BROTHER JOSEPH EDWARD WALSH DIED AS A PRISONER OF WAR IN GERMANY ON 2ND JANUARY 1917.
