Webb, Lawrence Arthur

BORN HULL 1893. KNOWN AS “ARTHUR”. ONLY SON OF JOHN MILLS WEBB & MARY ELIZABETH (JACKLIN) WEBB, OF 39, HOLDERNESS ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THREE SISTERS, EMILY, FLORENCE AND DORIS. BEFORE THE WAR ARTHUR WORKED AS A NER RAILWAY PORTER, AT KINGSTON STREET DEPOT.

HE ENLISTED IN THE EYR TERRITORIALS ON 28/04/1910, AT THE AGE OF 17 AND RE-ENLISTED ON 27/04/1914. POSTED TO FRANCE 17/04/1915. WOUNDED IN THE HEAD ON 29/12/1915. RETURNED TO UNIT AND KILLED IN ACTION ON 4/04/1916 AT YPRES. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HDM ON 16/04/1916, GIVING THIS ADDRESS. HE WAS UNMARRIED AND 23 YEARS OLD. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER. HE WAS AWARDED THE 1914-1915 STAR, BRITISH WAR MEDAL AND VICTORY MEDAL. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE MENIN GATE MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING AT YPRES.
