Wells, Percy Edward

Rifleman, Wells, of the Royal Rifles is reported to have died on wounds on the Tadman Street Roll of Honour (Hull Daily Mail 25 September 1916). 

Born at Torino, Italy, 1894. He was the son of Percy and Annie Wells, of 20 Jackson Street, Hull. He had four brothers and three sisters, living at this address. He was married on 17/09/1908, at Sheffield. Husband of Rose Ada Snowden and had four children. They lived at Shepherd Street, Sheffield. His army records, describe him as former Correspondence Clerk, 5 foot, 8 inches tall, 116 lbs weight, 33.5 inch chest, fresh complexion, grey eyes, black hair, Methodist religion, He enlisted at Winchester, on 22/08/1914, aged 20 years and 9 months. Posted to France, on 20/05/1915. Suffered from Trench feet and several bouts of scabies, brought on by harsh trench conditions. Served with the 8th Rifle Brigade. Died of wounds, on 28/04/1916.

His widow moved to Bridlington, East Yorkshire, where it seems she died soon after, leaving 4 motherless children.
