Pte, William Wilkinson, 4th Coldstream Guards

Born Hull 1882. Son of John Wilkinson, of Hull. Enlisted in Windsor, London on 15/03/1900.  A time expired Coldstream Guardsman. Served 12 years, including in the South African Campaign. Worked as an Oil Mill Labourer.

Married Gertrude Naylor, on 08/10/1904, at Newington Parish Church, Hull.

Re-enlisted, on 28/08/1914. served with the 4th Coldstream Guards. Discharged as physically unfit on 06/02/1915 – Rheumatism and bad legs caused by carrying timber in civilian life . Described as 5 foot 11 inches tall, 146 lbs weight, 38 inch chest, blue eyes, light brown hair, tattoos on both arms. “Hard Working Man of Good Character” (Army Records). His condition was aggravated by military service. He died of heart disease, on 27/12/1916, aged 34. He is buried at Hull’s Hedon Road cemetery.
Left widow and daughter, Gertrude at 46 Aldboro Street and  4, Trent Avenue, Eastbourne Street, Hessle Road., Hull.

His death was reported in the Hull Daily Mail, on 29/12/1916.
