Willis, Harry

BORN GRIMSBY 26/06/1893. ACCIDENTALLY KILLED MINE SWEEPING OFF THE COAST OF IRELAND.

SON OF JANE CRISP MEGGITT (1873-1967) & THE LATE THOMAS EDWARD WILLIS (1870-1899), OF  110 , DIVISION ROAD, HULL (1901) & LAKESIDE GROVE, GIPSYVILLE. HIS NEXT OF KIN WAS HIS MOTHER, JANE MEGGITT, AT 26, MIDDLETON STREET, SPRING BANK, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS) AND 110, SHARP STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE SERVED HIS TIME WITH KELSALL BROTHERS & BEECHING & JOINED THE ROYAL NAVY  RESERVE, MINESWEEPERS, IN OCTOBER 1914. HE WAS ACCIDENTALLY KILLED ON BOARD THE TRAWLER “LOCK TUMMELL”, MINE SWEEPING OFF THE IRISH COAST. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 9TH NOVEMBER 1915. *

HE IS BURIED AT LOWER FAHAN (CHRIST CHURCH) CHURCHYARD, COUNTY DONEGAL, IRELAND.

HMT Loch Tummel was a British Royal Navy trawler lost in the Mediterranean on the 14th July 1918. Circumstances unknown.
