Hull Teachers ww1 Memorial, Guildhall, Hull. Included the names of 27 Hull teachers lost in WW1. Two further names were added.

BORN HULL 1891. SON OF ROBERT WILLIAM & EMMA WITTY ABOVE. HE TRAINED IN SHEFFIELD (1911 CENSUS) AND WAS A HULL SCHOOL TEACHER. HE HAD ONE BROTHER, ROBERT WITTY, LIVING AT 51 PEEL STREET, HULL AND ONE SISTER, EMMA COLLINS, LIVING AT 7 SPIVEY GROVE, CLIFTON STREET, HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 01/09/1914. SERVED WITH THE 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 17/04/1915. APPOINTED LANCE CORPORAL, ON 17/07/1915. WOUNDED ON 24/04/1915 AND RETURNED TO ENGLAND. KILLED IN ACTION ON 03/05/1917, AGED 26. COMMEMORATED ON THE ARRAS MEMORIAL, FRANCE. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 2 YEARS AND 245 DAYS.

HE LEFT £187 IN HIS WILL TO HIS FATHER AT THIS PROBATE ADDRESS.

HIS NAME IS INSCRIBED ON A BRONZE PLAQUE TO HULL TEACHERS KILLED DURING WW1 AT THE CITY COUNCIL GUILDHALL.
