BORN HULL 1887. ELDEST SON OF WILLIAM HENRY ANSELL & LOUISE ELEANOR WILDRIDGE (1861-1940). HE HAD A YOUNGER BROTHER, CHARLES AND HIS MOTHER REMARRIED BECOMING MRS HARMAN.

HE MARRIED ADA MARWOOD (1889-1958), AT HULL IN 1910, AGED 23. HE WORKED AS A JOINER AND LIVED AT 4, HILDAS AVENUE, PERTH STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS).

HE ENLISTED HULL. SERVED AS A GUNNER IN THE EAST RIDING ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. TRANSFERRED TO THE 281ST SIEGE BATTERY. DIED OF WOUNDS ON 07/08/1917, AGED 30. HIS ARMY EFFECT WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW ADA, WHO MOVED TO WILLERBY, NEAR HULL (WAR PENSION RECORDS).
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON ST MATTHEWS CHURCH WW1 MEMORIAL, BOULEVARD, HULL.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL 09/08/1918. HIS WAR PENSION WENT TO HIS WIDOW, ADA, AND THEIR TWO CHILDREN, WHO MOVED TO WILLERBY, HULL, AFTER THE WAR. HIS NAME IS ALSO INSCRIBED ON THE KIRKELLA WAR MEMORIAL AT ST ANDREWS’ CHURCH.

he is Commemorated on the war Memorial Kirk Ella Churchyard Near Hull – Served in the Great War Commended on the Kirkella Roll of Honour East Riding of Yorkshire; His name is on the Parochial Roll of Honour for Kirk Ella, West Ella, Willerby and Raywell East Riding of Yorkshire; Commemorated on the St. Mathews Church War Memorial Hull. His Death Was Reported In The HDM 09/08/1918. – During The First World War, The Village Of Lijssenthoek was situated on The Main Communication Line Between The Allied Military Bases in the rear and the Ypres Battlefields. Close to the Front, But out of the extreme range of most German Field Artillery, it became a natural place to establish Casualty Clearing Stations. The Cemetery was first used by the French 15th Hospital D’Evacuation and in June 1915, It began to be used by Casualty Clearing Stations of The Commonwealth Forces from April to August 1918, The Casualty Clearing Stations fell back before the German advance and Field Ambulances (Including A French Ambulance) took their places. The Cemetery Contains 9,901 Commonwealth Burials of The First World War, 24 Being Unidentified. There Are 883 War Graves Of Other Nationalities; Mostly French And German, 11 Of These Are Unidentified. There Is One Non World War Burial Here.
