BORN HULL 1892. SON OF RICHARD ANSON (1853-1949) & MATILDA UPRIGHT (1857-1937)), AT 44, DOVER STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF A CHIEF POST OFFICE ATTENDANT. ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN. HE WORKED AS AN ACCOUNTS CLERK, FOR THE HULL & BARNSLEY RAILWAYS, AT CHARLOTTE STREET, HULL. EDUCATED AT HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL AND HULL TECHNICAL COLLEGE.

HE ENLISTED, AS PRIVATE, 2333, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 17/04/1915. PROMOTED TO CORPORAL, 200549. COMMISSIONED AS 2ND LIEUTENANT, IN THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE WAS KILLED AT ALBERT, ON THE SOMME, 04/06/1916, AGED 23.
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON HULL TECHNICAL COLLEGE WW1 MEMORIAL.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 12/06/1916. UNMARRIED. HE LEFT £173 IN HIS WILL TO HIS FATHER, RICHARD, A POST OFFICE SUPER INDENDENT, AT THIS PROBATE ADDRESS. HE IS BURIED ON THE SOMME. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “WITH CHRIST WHICH IS FAR BETTER”

ANSON Stanley Edmund 2nd Lieut. 2333 – 1st Bn East Yorkshire Regimen He Enlisted, as Private, 2333, East Yorkshire Regiment. Arrived Ii France, on 17/04/1915. Promoted to Corporal, 200549. Commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant, In the 1st East Yorkshire Regiment. Killed In Action west of Fricourt after a heavy bombardment and during a German Attack on the Trenches 4/6/1916 Aged 23 Years. The attack was repulsed, but Lt. Anson was Killed. Buried At Norfolk Cemetery Becordei-Becourt France I.B.61. His Grave Inscription, Reads, “With Christ Which Is Far Better” Born 1892 Hull – One Of Eight Children. Son of Richard (1853-1949) & Matilda Anson nee Upright (1857-1937), of 44 Dover Street Hull. His Death Was Reported In The Hull Daily Mail, On 12/06/1916. Unmarried. He Left £173 in his will to his father, Richard, a Post Office Super Intendent. Previously employed as a Clerk for the North Eastern Railways. Hull Daily Mail 12/6/1916, 5/6/1917 – Commemorated On The Hull Technical College ROH. HDM 12/6/16. Formerly Employed As NER Clerk. His Name Is Recorded On Hull Technical College WW1 Memorial.
