Hull Pals Memorial Post. L/CPL ALBERT ARKSEY 220017. Born 1890, the youngest of five children, to William and Mary Arksey of 6 Wilde Street, Hull. Albert was killed in action on March 25th 1918 in the trenches west of Ervillers as the Pals tried to stem the tide of the German Spring Offensive. His body was never recovered and his name, like so many of his comrades, is commemorated on Bays 4-5 of the Arras Memorial. He was 28 years old. Albert had two brothers who also answered the call of King and Country. Thankfully, both Arthur and George Arksey, who were married with families of their own, survived and returned to Hull. What made this search a little more difficult than most was a second Albert Arksey from Hull, who also had a father named William, and who also died fighting for the Pals.
